Background information on some
of the most famous oil fields:
| Ghawar
Field: |
was
discovered in 1948. It is considered the biggest oil field
in the world. It is located 200 km east of Riyadh city. Its
remaining oil reserves amount to about 67 billion barrels.

| Safaniya
Field: |
Was
discovered in 1951. It is considered the largest offshore
oil field in the world. Its reserves amount to around 37 billion
barrels of oil and 5,360 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

| Hawtah
Field: |
was
discovered in 1989. It is located 180 km south Riyadh city.It
produces 200 MB/D of Arabian Super Light Oil with 49- degree
gravity. |
| Shaybah
Field: |
Its
reserves amount to 15 billion barrels of crude oil and 25
trillion cubic meters of gas. It produces 500,000 B/D. It
has a 640 km pipeline that runs from Shay bah to Abqaiq. |

Saudi Aramco Domestic Joint Ventures:
1- Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery Company (SASREF) in Jubail:
50/50 owned by Saudi Aramco and Shell. It was established in 1981.
The Refinery's production capacity is 305,000 B/D of Arabian Light
Oil.
2- Saudi Aramco Exxon Mobil Refinery Company (SAMREF) in Yanbu:
50/50 owned by Saudi Aramco and Exxon Mobil. It was established
in 1984. The production capacity of this refinery is 365,000 B/D
of Arabian Light Oil.
3- Saudi Aramco Lubricating Oil Company (PETROLUBE) in Jeddah:
Saudi Aramco holds 71% and Exxon/Mobil holds 29% of the company's
equity. The company was established in 1968. It produces 2 million
barrels/ Year of different types of lubricating oils for the local
and international markets. The two most famous types are petromin
Ultra 7 and petromin Extra Super.
4- Saudi Aramco Lubricating Oil Refining Company (LUBREF) in Jeddah
and Yanbu:
Saudi Aramco and Exxon Mobil 70% and 30%, respectively, of the
company's equity. The company consists of two refineries: LUBREF-Jeddah
with a 1.8 million B/Y production capacity and LUBREF-Yanbu with
2 million B/Y. This company was established in 1978. LUBREF-Yanbu
commenced production in 1997.
Saudi Aramco Joint Ventures abroad:
Motiva Enterprises LLC/USA
Saudi Aramco holds a 32.5% share in Motiva, with Texaco holding
32.5% and Shell 35%.
Motiva possesses 4 refineries with 820,000 B/D total refining
capacity and more than 13,000 service stations whose total sales
of auto fuels are 600,000 B/D.
S-Oil Refinery – South Korea
Saudi Aramco owns a 35% stake in the company. The refinery's refining
capacity is 525,000 B/D.
Petron Corporation-Philippine:
Saudi Aramco owns a 40% share in the company. The company's refining
capacity is 180,000 B/D.
Motor Oil (Hellas) and Avinoil-Greece
50/50 owned by Saudi Aramco and Vardinoyannis Industrial Group.
The refinery's refining capacity is about 100,000 B/D.
Arabian Pipeline Petroleum Company-SUMED-Egypt
Saudi Aramco owns a 15% share in the company. The pipeline runs
from the Gulf of Suez to the Mediterranean shores,carrying around
2.4 MMB/D of crude oil.
